Prof. Steve Groom, PI of PRIMUS and PML Head of Science, Earth Observation Science and Applications, presented our project at a science symposium on “Trends, Reflections, Evolution, and Visions in Ocean Research” organized by the Trevor Platt Science (TPS) Foundation at PML, from 7-11 August 2023. The symposium aimed at celebrating the scientific life of Prof. Trevor Platt and carrying forward his legacy in ocean research and international collaboration.
In addition to presenting a poster titled “Uncertainty estimates for satellite-based computations of marine primary production”, Dr. Gemma Kulk was also co-chair at the session UN-SDGs related to water. This session aimed at gathering experts and institutions from diverse backgrounds, to explore the challenges and solutions related to sustainable management of water resources in the context of Sustainable Development Goals and the concept of One Health.
Two other members of our team also presented their research during the poster session: Prof. Vanda Brotas (MARE/FC-ID) presented her work titled “Spatial patterns of phytoplankton size structure in the Atlantic Ocean Regions”, and Dr. Bror Jonsson (PML) presented his work on “MOSS - A novel method to study dominating timescales of variability in global satellite Chl and SST fields”.
The Trevor Platt Science (TPS) Foundation is an international organisation established in 2021 to stimulate capacity building in science, research, and environment-related education with special focus on the oceans. The aim of this foundation is promoting a more sustainable governance of our planet for the future generations. To know more the TPS Foundation, click here.
